Below is the list of my favorite TV shows of 2012!! (You should start on them if you haven’t yet.)

A show about a post-apocalyptic earth after aliens wipe out most of humanity. What’s not to love about that? It’s been compared to The Walking Dead but with aliens, and although I don’t fully agree with that, it’s not an invalid statement (kind of?). And with Steven Spielberg attached to the show (executive producer) and above average CG for a TV show, this sci-fi series should continue to thrive for future seasons. Season 3 is due out later this year, possibly aimed at a late summer release.

A depressed man (Elijah Wood) finds a friend in his neighbor’s dog, Wilfred (and I mean literally). Who wouldn’t want to befriend a dog who you can talk to and smoke pot with everyday? An adaptation of the Australian series of the same name, Wilfred stars, Jason Gann (who plays Wilfred on the Australian version too), as the perverted and foul-mouthed companion. A must-watch for filthy, comedy-lovin’ mutts out there. Season 3 is due out this summer.

Although Bon Temps, home of everything supernatural (vampires, weres, fairies, witches, necromancers, etc), has gotten dull and out of control over the seasons, some of its memorable characters still keep its heart pumping. And even with Alan Ball MIA as showrunner, season six is slated for this summer. One thing is clear though, as the latest season will squeeze out 10 episodes instead of the traditional 12.

Being Human is the American adaptation of the British series of the same name. A vampire and a werewolf both move in together in a house where a ghost resides. The three (well, two because a ghost can’t really… anyway) try to live normal lives among the humans but find it hard to run away from their true nature. The show is currently on its third season.

Taking a darker spin than Smallville (I miss you), the archer superhero Green Arrow is played by Stephen Amell this time around. Oliver Queen goes through a shipwreck that kills his ex-girlfriend’s sister and later causes his father’s death. He is then held captive on an island for five years. After Queen returns home, he takes a hobby as a vigilante who takes down (yes, assassinate, murder, kill!!!) the people whose names are written in his father’s list with the help of his sidekick/bodyguard. If you’re a fan of the DC Comics superhero, you’ll definitely need to catch this show which is still on its first season.

The dead are back this Sunday. We last left off with the Dixon brothers getting both caught up in the arena (of deathhhhhhhh!). The rest of the season will definitely be edge-of-your-seat packed. Let’s just hope Andrea redeems herself and chooses to do something smart for once! The second half of the season returns this Sunday.

Although the show was killed (cancelled) after just two seasons, AMC revived it not too long ago. The show’s controversy followed after the case of Rosie Larsen’s murder wasn’t solved in the first season. Instead, it was solved in season two but it was too late to recover the audience it lost. I personally loved the fact that they kept the case going for two seasons straight and was patient enough to know who the killer of Rosie was. With plot twists and flawless chemistry between Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman), it more than makes up for the wait. The third season should be slated later this year (summer or fall).

Series two of AHS brought a new setting and characters. With aliens, demonic possessions, mutated experiments, and a serial killer, Asylum was almost too much to handle (in a good way). The cluttered plots and twists all untangled towards the last few episodes in a grotesque, yet fun way. Let’s all hope that creators Ryan Murphy (Glee) and Brad Falchuk cook up something as good for series three, currently unnamed (maybe witches?!?!).

Everyone’s favorite meth cook is back with the second half of season five this summer. We last left off with Hank finding out Walter’s true identity: Heisenberg, the meth kingpin. Can this show get any better? We’ll just have to wait a couple more months to see Hank and Walter go head-to-head, arena style maybe? The last eight episodes of Breaking Bad will air this summer and they will be the last of the series’ five season run. Don’t be sad, be glad that they’re not milking it.

The Crawley household has had its big share of drama this season. With a newborn(s?!), Bates being released from prison, a major death(s?!) and much more to come, this season tops the previous two. Having seen the whole season ahead of the American release (which started last month), I can say that there’s still more shocking dilemma to hit Downton. There’s only 2 episodes left in the season, plus the Christmas special, which runs at an hour and a half. You really can’t miss that episode!

Homeland is one of the most intense TV shows that I’ve ever had a chance to watch. After its many wins at awards shows, I couldn’t believe that this was the best show on air today. After finally sitting down and watching the first season, I got hooked immediately. As I sit down typing this, I am still having withdrawals (hurry up season three!). So yes, this show DOES deserve the attention it’s getting because each episode you watch from season one and into season two just gets better and better. Expect season three to air (unfortunately) this fall.

Speaking of hooked, boy does this show stick it in your chest and pull you to watch more. No please! I’ve got to sleep!! (Yep, that was me.) The leads, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), have the best chemistry out of any show I’m currently addicted to. With witty lines, intense drama and characters you hate but love (yes, I am talking about Louis), this show is one of the best out there. No Emmy love? Who cares! They suck at judging anyway. Oh, and I love Donna (Sarah Rafferty). You can’t find a better character than that in any of the shows today. Season 2 is still being aired, with only three episodes left (nooooo!!!).

These shows are what I currently watch and plan to add others to my list. I’ve started House of Cards, which is great so far, and then serving myself a plate of Spartacus and Sherlock next.
